Keynote Speaker: William Irwin, King’s College

April 12, 2025

The graduate students of the UAlbany Philosophy department are proud to announce that the topic of The 17th Annual UAPA Grad Student Conference is Pop Culture and Philosophy. All are invited and the conference is open to the public.

If you have special accessibility questions or require accommodations to fully participate in this event, please contact charvish@albany.edu as soon as possible to make appropriate accommodations.

We invite graduate students to submit papers on the subject of Pop Culture and Philosophy approached from any philosophical lens. For instance, the paper could be written through the lens of Aesthetics, Ethics, Social Epistemology, etc. Papers should be suitable for a 25 to 30 minute presentation (approximately 3,000-4,000 words).

All submissions should be prepared for blind review and should include a separate document containing the following information: your name, paper title, an abstract of approximately 150 to 250 words, institutional affiliation, e-mail address, phone number, and where you saw this call for papers. Please submit papers via e-mail with “2025 Conference Submission” in the subject line. Acceptable formats are MS Word documents, RTF files, or PDF files. Please send submissions to uapa.submission@gmail.com by January 31, 2025.

Please note: Housing can be provided for graduate student speakers. In addition, conference registration and all meals on the day of the conference are free for all conference attendees. Some funding is available to assist graduate student speakers with travel costs (determined based on need/distance and number of speakers assisted), to be communicated upon acceptance/invitation to present at the conference after the blind review.

Funding provided by the American Philosophical Association. http://www.apaonline.org/
