Letter From the Series Editor

Philosophy is everywhere. You can find it at work behind the scenes in Hollywood TV shows and movies, between the pages of the latest graphic novel, and within the characters of your favorite book. It's not just about the ancient Greeks and Philosophy 101. Philosophy is all around you and that includes pop culture.

Welcome to the home of The Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture Series!

Our goal with the Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture Series is to get philosophy out of the ivory tower by publishing books about smart popular culture for serious fans. With each volume in this series we seek to teach philosophy using the themes, characters, and ideas from your favorite TV shows, comic books, movies, music, games, and more.

The series began with South Park and Philosophy, and twenty volumes later we’re still going strong with Heroes and Philosophy and Twilight and Philosophy. We’re looking forward to casting our philosophical net even wider with the upcoming publication of Iron Man and Philosophy, The Ultimate Harry Potter and Philosophy, True Blood and Philosophy, Mad Men and Philosophy, and many more.

So please, indulge your inner philosopher and pop culture geek by cruising around the site, taking the polls, watching the videos, and checking out the sample chapters. Find out if Batman is better than Superman, if we’re all patients in Hurley’s psych ward, and if time travel is actually possible. And let me know what you think! I would love to hear from you about your experience reading any of the books in the series, and I would appreciate any suggestions for future books.

And remember, the unexamined life is not worth living and the unexamined sitcom is not worth watching.
